Say “good day” to Windows 7, as it takes a back seat with the dreaded Windows Vista. The people over at Microsoft have been in the development and testing phases of what is being called “Windows 8” (for the time being). So when is it being released for consumer use? Well, that’s an answer even the CEO of Microsoft can’t answer! They decided this time around instead of putting a release date on the operating system they would make it perfect and get it done, well…. When it’s done. Taking the time to get it right this time, is priority seeing that Microsoft is estimating the new operating system being on over 400 million devices. Yes, I said devices not just computers anymore!
This new operating system will be able to run on mobile devices to the biggest desktop computer your little heart desires! Where it does not seem to be such a massive feature but you have to ask why no one else came up with this idea, to be able to run the same operating system on say a desktop then turn around and use the same operating system on a tablet. Well, Google’s Android operating system gave it a shot but still to this day struggles to be able to get it right. Also, you don’t see the same operating system on an Apple computer that you will find on an iPad. I’m sure you can see the advantages to having one operating system on every device. Windows 8 was more designed for touch screen which is a plus for your mobile devices but also made it very user friendly and the option to use the user interface which is very similar to Windows 7 for the people who don’t like change and may find it easier to use with a mouse and keyboard.
Now, about this new look Windows 8 has come up with and the ability to use it looking exactly the same as Windows 7 desktop user interface. The new look that Windows 8 is sporting, looks like a tile mosaic board, where the normal icons would be. The, tiles will be used the same as apps and widgets would be on the latest non-Apple mobile platform. If you’re unfamiliar with a “widget” let me explain. Say you have a widget for the weather, the “weather widget” will work the same as your regular icon but will give you current temperature and weather conditions without having to click on it to see. When you click on the widget you will get a new screen to pop up with the weather on it, it will show the current weather conditions, extended forecast, radars, and everything else weather you can think of. The point of a widget is to give you at glance information without having to open an app or program, which is very useful. Now once you start customizing your PC equipped with Windows 8 to become a very personal computer, you can change your tiles to what you want to see at a glance and be able to tell it what information you want to see, when you turn your computer on with it’s metro look.

There are so many new features that will apply to tablet life, from the thumbs keyboard allowing you to hold your tablet with both hands and pluck the on screen keyboard using just your thumbs and not having to pull out the ol’ pointer finger and blast it in the middle of the screen to hit the “G” key. Other features include cloud-based storage, possible porting of XboX live accounts, more security features, new keyboard shortcuts, redesigned task manager and there will be a bottomless pit of a Windows app store. I can go on and on about all the new features Microsoft came out with for this operating system but until they give us a taste of how it’s going to be we just won’t know how the performance and stability will interact with the now, even more user friendly interface. Hopefully it won’t be another broken window like Microsoft’s flop of an operating system Vista!
